Sarcoxie Park Board

The Sarcoxie Park Board is an advisory committee dedicated to the city’s Parks.  They serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council with responsibilities including overseeing park resources, developing park usage policies, and promoting the usage and growth of park resources for the betterment of our city and community.

The City of Sarcoxie has several parks including:

Town Square and Gazebo: The historic town square is located in the heart of downtown Sarcoxie and features lots of shade trees, places to sit and relax, and a gazebo for public entertainment.  The town square is the preferred meeting place for Chief Sarcoxie Days and other community events.

Stebbins Memorial Park: Located across from the Sarcoxie High School, this park includes play ground equipment, a basket ball court, sand volleyball, a baseball field, pavilions for getting out of the sun, restrooms, and lots of space to run around.

Sarcoxie Pool Complex: With construction completed in 2004, the Pool Complex is located in Stebbins Memorial Park and features a wading pool for infants, a zero entry volleyball pool, and a diving pool.  This is a very popular attraction during the summer months.

Sarcoxie Arena: Built in 2005, the arena is located just off the square and is designed for equestrian events.  The Sarcoxie Saddle Club holds several events there each year.

Gene Taylor Community Building: The Community Building is located just off the square on Business Loop 44.  It is capable of hosting events of up to 250 people with a large meeting room, and cafeteria style kitchen facilities.  Recent improvements include a modern public address system and powerful heating and cooling system to ensure that event guests are comfortable and can hear what’s going on.

In addition to maintaining the city’s parks, the Park Board is also actively involved in adding new parks and resources for the community.  Current priorities include:

Skate Park: Located in Stebbins Memorial Park, the existing skate park has been demolished and efforts are underway to rebuild the skate park for people who like to risk it all on skateboards, in-line skates, and bikes.

Ball Complex: The Park Board, in conjunction with Sarcoxie Youth Sports, and the Sarcoxie School District, is acquiring land and raising funds to build a four field complex for both baseball and softball.

The City’s Park system is primarily funded through a local parks sales tax.  Some additional funds are gained through dedicated property taxes, usage fees, and admissions.  To support our city’s parks please shop locally.
